STRAWBERRIES have a very high content of Vitamin C which is good for a clear complexion. They have a balancing effect on blood sugar levels believed to be because of their polyphenol content. The leaf of the strawberry (aka the calyx) usually gets cut off, but it is actually just as nutritious. So if you have washed your strawberries well, eat the top too.
455g (1lb) fresh strawberries, washed but keep the stalks on to use as ‘handles’ * 2 tsp cocoa powder * 2 tsp cornflour * 150ml (5 floz) skimmed milk * 55g (2oz) high quality dark chocolate 70% cocoa content, broken into pieces * 1 tbsp golden syrup
Put all the ingredients for the chocolate sauce into a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring with a small whisk, until the sauce is thickened and smooth.
Divide the chocolate sauce between 4 serving pots and the strawberries onto serving dishes. Serve – dip the strawberries into the sauce. Lush.
