Sacral Chakra Balancing

“We cannot selectively numb emotions, when we numb the painful emotions,
we also numb the positive emotions.”

Brené Brown, Professor & Lecturer

The sacral chakra is your pleasure dome, your amusement park, your sweet and juicy orange. It is you, jumping into the puddle with wellington boots or or bombing into a swimming pool. It is the sheer joy of being alive. If you have any of the over-developed symptoms such as selfishness, addiction or lack of self-control, you may want to work on calming higher chakras in EMOTIONAL COMMUNICATION & MINDFUL CLARITY.

If your sacral chakra is weak, for example, if you fear change, are ashamed of your body or have no sexual desire, you may want to develop this chakra.

The sacral chakra is linked to a zesty orange colour which is very energising. Focus on all hues of orange from salmon pink to amber. Pick out orange flowers for your bedroom, choose to eat oranges and clementines. Wear orange jumpers or blouses. Take pictures of beautiful orange sunsets. Use the colour as a visual cue to focus on this chakra. If your sacral chakra is over-developed, try to avoid this colour.

Activating the sacral chakra through yoga is to bring consciousness into the body through feeling and sensation. Stretching creates pain which activates consciousness, however, it should not be excessive as chronic pain shuts down sensation creating blockages and reducing awareness. Only take your pain ‘to the edge‘; a sweet pain, which is like a pleasurable massage. The energy coming up from your first root chakra splits into two either side of your core: polarity. So each pose should embrace duality – action/resistance, expansion/contraction, holding/releasing, activity/rest. These poses will contribute to emotions being released – Latin e, meaning ‘out’, and movere, meaning ‘to move’. Do not fear. Repressed emotions restrict your body’s movement, so welcome their liberation.

Do yoga poses: Windshield Wiper Legs, Knee Circles, Supta Baddha Konasana Butterfly Pose, Ananda Balasana Happy Baby Pose, Sucirandhrasana Eye of the Needle Pose, Jathara Parivartanasana Knee-down Twist, Baddha Konasana Cobbler Pose, Asana Meditation Pose Upavistha Konasana Open-leg Forward Fold, Uttanasana Standing Forward Fold and Anjaneyasana Deep Lunge. As you do your yoga poses or as you sit quietly daily, say the following affirmation:
I am alive. I am playful. I enjoy life. My creative juices flow. I allow myself to feel the emotions as they move through my body

To get this chakra spinning and balanced, you need to re-discover your PASSIONS and push boundaries; food, music, dancing, travel, crime stories or whatever you loved as a child. Re-discover your passion or hobby, you may even discover what your burning desire is for your personal written statement. You may want to consider a BUCKET LIST or “30 Things to Do Before I Die”. This really focusses your mind on what you really want to do in life. Imagining that you have only 6 months to live will help this process.

Whatever it is, do something that will make you happy and feel alive again. Here are some suggestions for your bucket list to get you started: (yes, I enjoy a game of Twister!)
