These two drinks are great pick-me-ups for two different reasons. Espresso Martini when you get to the end of your meal and need a boost to see you to the end of the day (or night!) And Hot Toddy when you really feel under the weather and need to keep going.
ESPRESSO MARTINI
Serves 1
30ml (1 floz) Tia Maria liqueur * 30ml (1 floz) vodka * double shot of espresso coffee * 1 tsp sugar syrup * 3 coffee beans, to serve * crushed ice
Fill a martini glass with ice and set aside to chill. Pour Tia Maria, vodka and espresso into a cocktail shaker. Fill the rest of the shaker with ice. Shake the ingredients together. Empty the martini glass of ice. Pour in the contents of the shaker using a strainer and sieve into the glass.
HOT TODDY
Serves 1
30ml (1 floz) whisky or brandy * 30ml (1 floz) honey * 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice * 185ml (6 floz) boiling-hot water
Put the whisky or brandy, honey and lemon juice in a mug. Top off with hot water and stir until honey is dissolved. Serve with sympathy.
